Born in 1955 in a small northern Michigan town, my interest in photography began in 1973 when my father
gave me his 1950’s vintage Argus rangefinder camera. That old camera would begin a life long journey with
photography.
In 1980 I returned to Western Michigan University to finish the degree I began in 1974. This time around my
major was Art with an emphasis on photography; in 1982 I
was accepted into the BFA program. While at WMU I studied
under Professor Emeritus Jack Carney. Jack is an incredible
photographer and much of what I know today is because of
his inspiration, instruction and friendship.
After college I opened a commercial photography studio,
which specialized in architectural, product and photo
journalistic photography. My work has been published
Architecture Magazine, Business Digest, corporate annual
reports, product catalogs and commercial advertising. My
artwork has been exhibited in galleries at The Kalamazoo
Institute of Arts, Western Michigan University, Greenstreet
Arts, Gallery 105 and other galleries throughout Midwest.
Today my concentration is solely for my passion of fine art photography. I am from the old school of
photography and my work has been heavily influenced my masters such as Ansel Adams, Edward Weston,
Paul Strand and Minor White. I continue to work today in this tradition, but have ventured into more and more
color work. The possibilities that the digital medium offers allows me to express my vision in color that I could
not do in the tradition darkroom process.
In March 2008 I opened my own fine art gallery and left the corporate world behind.
